Which kind of Rotary cleaning should I use

posted on Sunday 16th May, 2010 at 20:05 COMMENTS (0)

Over the last few years I have been using rotary cleaning systems e.g. Roklean, Soot Eater, button lock systems, and the only problem I have come across, as many of you have, is that these systems are only good up to around 25ft. You then need a stiffer rod for the brush to work properly but not so stiff that it damages the flue. I've tried many solutions from adapting British rods through to importing rods from America. The only problem is if these rods should shear it's very expensive to replace a rod. Recently a sweep from the West Country may have come up with a simple solution: all you need to do is buy a cheap set of black rods from B&Q or similar retailer approx. price between £15-20 for 10 rods, get the appropriate adaptors made for your brush head and an adaptor for your drill, and there you have it. A simple solution to the rod problem if you wish to go higher than 25ft on a 8-10" flue or maybe bigger.

If anyone else has any ideas to do with rotary cleaning please let me know or post your comments on the blog.

(I do not recommend any rotary cleaning equipment on pre-66 lime and cement liners).
