The D D Moore Chimney Sweep Company was started through necessity. As a serving member of the Fire Service, I started to notice an increase in chimney fires. After each fire the owner or occupier of the premises was questioned how often they had had their chimney swept. A large percentage asked "Do chimney sweeps still exist?" As I was thinking about my retirement and looking for a trade or business to start up I thought chimney sweeping might be the answer.
2004
In 2004 I started my chimney sweeping company and from the outset I set out to gain as much knowledge and qualifications as possible which is still ongoing.
2008
In 2008 I completed and passed an NVQ in Chimney Engineering (units VR01,VR02, VR03 and VR56) which took nine months to complete.
This qualification is not only City and Guilds verified but also entitles me to hold a CSCS card which is Constructional Skills standard for all contractors who wish to work on sites.
This card shows a high level of competency in health and safety and safe working practices.
2009-present
At the beginning of 2009 DD Moore changed its company status from a sole trader to a limited company and is now registered as DDM Chimney Sweep Ltd.
In November 2010 I finally retired from the Fire Service leaving me more time to develop the business.
To improve my business I have made contact with chimney sweeps and fire engineers as far afield as the USA, Germany and most of the representative bodies in the UK to do with solid fuel fires and technology.
Mission Statement
My mission is to provide the friendly and personal touch of a small business with the efficiency and professionalism of a large company.
Areas Covered
I now cover an area from East London to the mouth of the Thames and as far north as Chelmsford and Maldon although I do have some clients further afield. I also accept contracts south of the river into North Kent.
